When browsing through our wide range of soft bedding, you may have seen the term “matelasse” pop up. You’ll mostly see this technique used in our coverlets, or in matching shams (such as our brand new chalet-inspired Sperrin!)
What is matelasse?
Meaning “to quilt” or “to pad” in French, matelasse is a woven fabric with a textured or quilted effect. You will often find matelasse products under our coverlets tab. Unlike our blankets, coverlets are often quilted or matelasse. This pattern supplies a lightweight, yet durable quilting feel that makes coverlets perfect for layering in between thicker bedding- or an ideal stand alone piece during warm summer days.
Unlike some of our other coverlets, like Nova, that are filled with ¼’’ of batting, our matelasse products supply a soft and cozy feel without the added padding. This creates a dynamic quilting pattern and a textured effect, all while being single-layered.
