Cleaning Care & Suggestions
Your Eastern Accents bedding and soft home accessories will last for years if they are well cared for. We strongly recommend professional cleaning of all Eastern Accents duvet covers, coverlets, pillows, table runners, curtain panels, and ottomans due to varying fabric and trimming contents. We do not advise that these products be washed at home. Again, professional cleaning is recommended for all finished products. Fine Linen, inserts, and select fabrics may be washed at home.
The following key refers to Eastern Accents' fabric cleaning code:
Cleaning Code | Description |
MAC | Machine wash. |
S | Use mild water-free solvents or dry cleaning products. |
SW | Use water-based cleaners, or mild water-free solvents or dry cleaning products. |
W | Use only water-based cleaners; do not use solvents. |
WAS | Hand wash. |
CHW | Cold hand wash. |
SPO | Spot clean only. |
WS | Same as SW. |
The following products may be cleaned at home with care:
Fine Linen
We recommend that Eastern Accents Fine Linen be machine-washed in a front-loading machine. Due to the chemical processes, dry cleaning and bleaching are not recommended. Also, please note that Eastern Accents Fine Linen, as with most products made of natural fibers, has a tendency to shrink 4-6%.
Machine wash linens in warm water on a gentle cycle using color- and fragrance-free mild detergent or soap. Use enzyme reactive stain removers only. Do not use chlorine bleach or detergents with lighteners. Never pour detergent or soap directly onto your textiles. Either pour detergent in when the tub is full or dilute the detergent. Do not use fabric softeners. These only coat the fibers and make them "appear" to be soft. One cup of white vinegar in the rinse water removes all traces of soap and leaves fabrics smelling fresh.
The ideal way to dry linens is to air dry. A clothesline or rod is perfect for air drying, but you can use a railing or shower rod as well. If you must use a dryer, tumble dry on low for only a few minutes and do not dry completely. During the last few minutes of a dryer cycle the fabric overheats and dries out, making it brittle and lifeless over time. Always remove linens from the dryer while still damp, and then iron. For best results, use a spray bottle with water as opposed to the iron's steam feature.
Comforters & Sleep Pillows
PROTECTThe first step to care for your down bedding is to keep the comforter protected with a duvet cover and the pillows with our Tenor Pillow Protector in addition to pillowcases. The extra layer of fabric which easily can be washed will serve as a protector from dust, dirt and body oils.
FLUFFFrequently fluff your down comforter and pillows by giving it a few daily shakes. The steady flow of air will bring back its natural loft. On a dry breezy day, you may air de' Medici's down products outside, but avoid direct sunlight.
CLEANFrequent or improper washing of down can lead to excessive wear and tear and shorten its longevity and optimum performance. A properly cared for down product will only need washing every five years or so or only when soiled. We strongly recommend that our Basic Bedding products are cleaned by a professional launderer that is experienced with handling down. It is possible to wash down products at home, but residential machines are often too small and have an agitator which may harm your bedding. We do not recommend it, but if washed at home, use a front loading commercial style washer with non-bleach detergent on a gentle cycle. It is important to dry on low heat in a large machine until the product is completely dry; any lumps or smell of fill indicates dampness. Add a couple of clean tennis balls so that the fill moves as it dries.
STORAGEDown does not like humidity. To avoid mildew and mold, we recommend a dry well-ventilated storage space. Do not compress down during storage; give your comforter and pillows enough space to air and breathe.
Upholstery Care Instructions
To care for your upholstered product, dust or vacuum regularly to keep fabrics looking bright and new. Avoid direct sunlight and heat to prevent fabric fading. Dab any spills on fabric or legs immediately with a soft, white cloth. Do not use detergents to clean.
CLEANING LUCITE LEGSLook for a cleaning solution made especially for plastic. It's important to use a product made for acrylic since many household cleaners contain ammonia which will make the lucite look cloudy. Clean the surface with a clean microfiber cloth. Small particles in a used cloth can scratch the lucite surface.
LUCITE LEGS DISCLAIMERPlease take the following precautions when moving a product with Lucite legs. If these precautions are not taken and the legs are damaged, we will gladly replace them at a cost.
- Never drag the item across the floor.
- With 2 people, lift and then move the item.
- Gently place the item down so that the weight is distributed to all legs at the same time.
For stubborn oil-based stains, we recommend using JanieĀ® upholstery cleaner. It is a non-toxic, non-flammable, and odorless cleaner that comes as a powder in stick form. To use, first blot out as much liquid as possible from the surface of the fabric, then rub the cleaning stick into the stain, allow the powder to absorb, and brush away (or blow, if it is a delicate fabric). Any powder residue can be removed with a damp cloth.
Note that this cleaner is effective on oil-based stains only; for any other marks, please use the Upholstery Care Instructions above.
