If you've explored Montaigne, one of Eastern Accents’ newest luxury bedding collections, you may have noticed how it mixes rich colors, layered textures, and beaded trims to create a unique and captivating aesthetic.

From beaded balls to  brush fringe to gold cord Eastern Accents stocks a vast collection of passementerie (trims and decorative edgings) with over 400 options! Each unique piece gives our designers an opportunity to flex their creative skills, with the same cord or fringe often being used multiple ways in the same collection. Pictured right are Montaigne decorative pillows that use the same beaded fringe in three different styles! Our wide selection may seem overwhelming at first, but lets break it down by style and dig a little deeper into each exquisite trim...

Take a peek inside our factory! It looks complicated, but our trims are carefully organized and coded by aisle, shelf, and unit.

Cord

A cord is plied yarn that has been twisted together. When used for a seam, a tape is sewn onto the edge of the cord. Cords are frequently used in place of fabric welts on the edge of a pillow or duvet. Pictured below is our Cord Daryn individually and in use on our Montiagne Chenille Decorative Pillow. The twisted gold fibers catch the light and compliment the other metallic tones in the collection.

Beaded fringe

Another favorite example is our Beaded Fringe Jolene, pictured right as the edging of a decorative pillow. Unlike the Montaigne ottoman, this pillow’s construction hides the header of the trim inside of a seam, allowing the champagne beads to pop.

A beaded fringe is a decorative edging with beads. The heading can be plain or decorative. Our Montaigne collection features Beaded Fringe Lacecap, which features beads in various shades of blue, gold accents, and a velvet ribbon header. This particularly decadent example is pictured left, on the bottom of our Montaigne Storage Ottoman. Its golden velvet upholstery is rich and versatile, while the beads bring an artistic flair.

Ball trim

Very similar to a beaded fringe, ball trim uses pom poms or other balls as decor. Several examples are shown below, starting with our Wilder Speckled Decorative Pillow. Often playful in nature, we use this type of trimming in many children’s collections. Large orange pom poms deck the sides of this whimsical bolster, adding interest while still being soft to the touch and kid-friendly. Our Marceau Curtain Panel takes a more elegant approach, pairing sophisticated pinch pleats with refined ball detailing, for a lively and modern effect. Traditionally attached to the seam of a pillow or edge of a curtain panel, ball trimming can also decorate the face of a product, such as our Castaway Diagonal Decorative Pillow. This design showcases rows of trim across an understated fabric, creating a boldly textured effect.

Gimp, border, & ribbon

You probably have a good idea of what a ribbon is; flat and simple trimming. There are two main ways we use these in soft decor. First, a ribbon can be sewn into a seam on the edge of a pillow or duvet, as in our Laurel Spa Decorative Pillow. This design features a watercolor-esque print, with a muted green ribbon at the seam, butterfly-pleated at each corner for a tailored finishing touch. They can also be sewn down flat, our Watermill collection features multiple rows of coordinating ribbon on duvets, shams, sheeting.

Similar to a ribbon, a border is a flat, woven textile made in many styles. One or both edges of a border may be plain, cut, or have scalloped loops. Borders are sometimes woven in patterns such as stripes or chevrons. The large width of a border is perfect for hiding fabric seams, as seen on our Bale Woven Duvet Cover. Its striped border coordinates with the other geometric details in the collection and adds depth to the neutral design.

A gimp is a flat, narrow, woven textile made in many styles. Essentially just a thin border, gimps have many of the same uses, covering seams or framing a pillow. One benefit to gimps is that their thin size allows for more creative applications. Our Adler Natural Decorative Pillow features a geometric trellis design entirely crafted from gimp. Carefully cut and angled, the textured gimp pieces are placed to create an intricate pattern over an otherwise plain fabric.

Brush fringe & fringe

Fringe is a decorative edging with hanging tassels or threads. Let it make a statement on its own, as in our Isolde Ottoman, or use it to emphasize a bolder design, like our Beau Decorative Pillow. No matter the application, fringe is a simple way to add a bohemian flair to any design.

A brush fringe is a cut fringe with a flat skirt made of thin yarns. Thicker than a regular fringe, brush fringe is layered to create a thick and textural effect, reminiscent of a brush or broom. Our Montaigne Velvet Euro Sham features a small and subtle brush fringe, adorning the edge and complimenting the lush texture. Our Mykonos Standard Shams allow the brush fringe to speak for itself, with two layers of brush fringe sewn together to decorate the side flap.

Tassels & tassel trim

A tassel is a hanging ornament consisting of a head and skirt of cut yarn, looped yarn, or bullion fringe. Tassels come in all sizes and shapes. Classic, glamorous, and fun, they decorate everything from curtain tie-backs to decorative pillow corners.

Our individual tassels are handmade using a traditional pedal-powered tassel spinner, pictured above. With the threads spun, our tassel maker cuts the threads, folds them over, and ties them together. The finished product is a beautiful decorative tassel, ready to be attached.

A row of larger tassels graces the sides of our Cocobay Upholstered Bench. The blue and white threads blend the colors of the collection and create a soft transitions between the top and bottom of the bench, as well as adding the perfect beach-y finishing touch.

Similarly, a tassel trim is a plain or decorative gimp with attached tassels. Our Fairuza Eclectic Decorative Pillow showcases both styles beautifully. Large orange tassels hang from each corner, while multicolored tassel trim criss-crosses the front of the pillow.

If you are looking to use a glittering beaded fringe or bohemian tassel in your next project, Eastern Accents offers all of our trims by the yard, along with 3" swatches available for purchase. With every pattern and color under the sun, we are sure to have the perfect option just for you.
